THIS WEEK: Sunday, June 17, road game at ASA Chesapeake Charge
4:00 PM at Old Mill High School, Millersville, Md.

LAST WEEK: The New York Fury split a pair of road games, falling to the first place Chicago Red Stars, 2-1, on Friday before rebounding on Sunday with a win over FC Indiana, 1-0.

On Friday night, Michele Weissenhofer set up the first goal for the Red Stars, with a cross that glanced off the head of Lauren Fowlkes. Chicago striker Alyssa Mautz was there for the tap-in in the 26th minute.  Weissenhofer then got a goal of her own in the 68th minute, taking possession of a Fury goal kick and going straight to goal.

The Fury got on the board in the 85th minute, on a goal by second-half sub Claire Zimmeck in the 85th minute. Kim Yokers, who had a two-goal game against Philadelphia the previous week, sent a cross into the area that Chicago goalkeeper Jamie Forbes dropped, and Zimmeck finished off. It was the first goal the Red Stars have allowed all season.
On Sunday evening, Merritt Mathias scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the New York Fury a 1-0 win over FC Indiana at the Invaders Soccer Complex.  Mathias finished a breakaway from Tina DiMartino for the Fury's only goal in the 21st minute.

The Fury dominated the winless Lionesses, outshooting them 18-1 and hitting the crossbar three times.  With the win, the Fury improves to 4-1-1. Goalkeeper Michelle Betos posted her fourth shutout of the season.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT:
ASA Chesapeake Charge is a Maryland based club that currently owns a 1-3-1 record and sits sixth on the league table.  Led by head coach Albert Oni and assistants Drew Hoffman and Daniel Bulls, the Charge did the opposite of what the Fury did this past weekend, playing FC Indiana on Friday before traveling to the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday.  The team got a point from the two matches, drawing 1-1 with FC Indiana and suffering a 5-0 defeat to Chicago.

Baltimore native Alexis Prior-Brown leads the Charge with two goals scored on the season.  The team's roster is comprised of selected high school, college, post-college, former professional and international players.

PLAYER PROFILE: Campbell Hall native Brittany Taylor had a stellar college career at the University of Connecticut, twice being named to the All-America list and receiving a pair of BIG EAST Defender of the Year awards.  She led the Huskies to the NCAA College Cup Tournament following her senior season in 2009, tallying a game-winning goal against Boston University in a second overtime to advance to the second round.  Taylor was selected sixth overall in the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer Draft to Sky Blue FC, and she played every minute during two seasons with the New Jersey club.  She was also selected as an All-Star during her rookie campaign.

LONG ISLAND FURY: The Long Island Fury, the NY Fury's WPSL affiliate, is currently in training camp under the direction of head coach Phil Cassella. The team opens the WPSL season on Saturday at Aztec MA. The Fury are two time champions of the WPSL, capturing titles in 2006 and 2009 under the direction of Paul Riley. They also captured division titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
