THIS WEEK: Saturday, June 23 road game at Boston Breakers, 6:00 pm

LAST WEEK:Meghan Lenczyk had a goal and an assist to give the New York Fury a 2-0 win over the ASA Chesapeake Charge at Old Mill High School Sunday.

The win was the second in a row for the Fury, who improve to 5-2-1, 16 pts. Michelle Betos made two saves to post her fifth shutout of the season, and second in a row, as the Fury held a 15-4 shots advantage.

The Fury took the lead in the 38th minute, on a goal by Jasmyne Spencer. Lenczyk knocked down a free kick by Sinead Farrelly and Spencer finished for her second goal of the season.

New York added an insurance tally in the 55th minute. Team scoring leader Merritt Mathias sent in a cross, and Lenczyk finished with a diving header.

The Boston Breakers are one of three former Women's Professional Soccer franchises playing in the WPSL Elite. The Breakers had been among the high fliers in WPSL Elite this season, but on Monday had three points deducted from the standings and a forfeit called in what had been a 3-2 win over Western New York because of an ineligible player.

Katie Schoepfer has led the way for the Breakers, scoring eight goals so far this season, but three of those were in the wiped-out game against Western New York. She still leads the team with five. In their most recent outing, on June 10, the Breakers defeated the Philadelphia Fever 1-0 on a goal by Kyah Simon, her fourth of the season. They have a game on Wednesday, June 20, hosting cross-state rivals the New England Mutiny.

PLAYER PROFILE: Bay Shore, New York native Jasmyne Spencer scored her first goal for the New York Fury last weekend. A product of the Albertson Fury program, Spencer had a standout career at the University of Maryland, which she capped off in 2011 by starting 16 of 17 matches, scoring two goals and earning four assists, while being named a Soccer America Preseason All-American.

In 2010, she played 22 games and scored 10 goals while assisting on five and was an NSCAA Fourth Team All-American, NSCAA First Team All-Southeast Region, Third Team of the Season, All-ACC First Team and Soccer America Preseason All-American. After playing in 23 games and logging 10 goals and five assists in her sophomore season, she was named NSCAA First Team All-Southeast Region, Soccer America MVP and All-ACC First Team.  In her freshman year, she played 12 matches, starting five.

LONG ISLAND FURY: The Long Island Fury, the NY Fury's WPSL affiliate, is currently in training camp under the direction of head coach Phil Cassella. The team opens the WPSL season on Saturday at Aztec MA. The Fury are two time champions of the WPSL, capturing titles in 2006 and 2009 under the direction of Paul Riley. They also captured division titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
