US U15 Girls National Team Standouts

CARSON, California - The U.S. U15 Girls National Team continued its identification process with a camp in Southern California in mid September. As part of the camp, the U.S. Youth National Team played a three 30-minute period game against LA Galaxy South Bay Boys on Wednesday. While the game was a dominant affair for the Youth National Team, it's difficult to get a read on the quality of the group given the level of competition from the game on Wednesday.

The one-sided affair suggested this is going to be a group that likes to press quickly and does an excellent job at suffocating ball-movement with a midfield trio that blocks passing lanes. The defense is built with a foundation that tries to always push one of the back four into the attack while the midfield is fluid in the movement between the lines with quick passing. The forwards were physical and imposing on a, perhaps, younger boys squad.

TopDrawerSoccer was on hand for the scrimmage. Below are the players who stood out from the game from the U.S. U15 GNT.

D Ayooluwapo Oke, Concorde Fire - Oke is a special talent. She lined up at right back for the U.S. U15 Girls National Team. She took control of that side of the field and made it a strong part of the U.S. attack. She is a great athlete who stood out as a strong individual defender and a good passer.

D Kellie Pagador, Placer United - Pagador was one of the standouts from the group that played during the second period of the game against the LA Galaxy South Bay Boys. Pagador displayed impressive recovery speed and shut down a few attacks with that ability to make up ground in a hurry.

F Jilly Shimkin, FC Fury - Shimkin's goal in the third period was splendid and a rare combination of skill, poise, and awareness for a player of her age. After slipping past a defender, Shimkin pulled off a beautiful drag move to pull the ball back and send a retreating defender tumbling to the grass. She then finished the move with her weak foot into the far lower corner of the net. Outside of the momentary brilliance, Shimkin was undeniable in her effort to constantly attacking the opposition's outside back.

D Baleigh Bruster, Tophat SC - Bruster destroyed the center forward for the South Bay squad with some physical challenges and smart play. She was physically imposing, but rarely whistled for a foul. She did an excellent job at timing the tackle to knock the player off balance and take the ball away cleanly.

M Colby Barnett, Strikers FC - Barnett was a complete package as a defensive midfielder. She was good at winning the ball back quickly with her positioning and toughness in the tackle. Barnett is also a smart soccer player with her quick distribution and movement to support her teammates.

M Emma Egizii, Beach FC - Egizii was the best player on the field through the first 30 minutes of the game. She was on the ball the most and never lost possession of the ball. She lost the rhythm of the game when she came back in at the end of the contest and did not have the same influence on the game.
